When: Friday, March 17th, 2017 10AM-1:30PM
Where: Van Nuys Atrium, Medical Science Building, 635 Barnhill Dr. Indianapolis, IN, 46202
What exactly is this?: Match Day is where we open our envelopes telling us where we matched for residency. This has traditionally been a big even for the medical school class, and this year will be no different. This year we are having an open house which begins at 10AM and will give our families a chance to check out the medical school. Nearly all major staff will be present to show your family around! We ask that you arrive before 11:30AM in the Van Nuys Atrium on IUPUI's campus.
Where to park? There are a variety of garages very close to Van Nuys. Luckily, the students of IUPUI should be on Spring Break then, so that will help with street parking. The Vermont Street garage is a large, visitor-pay garage located just south of Van Nuys, at 1004 West Vermont Street. I've attached a picture below. IUPUI also publishes a comprehensive map of parking options which is accessible at : https://www.parking.iupui.edu/pages/park/visitors/visitors.asp
What to expect? The official program will begin at 11:30 AM. The open house will begin at 10AM. We will have some light refreshments to be served, your families are free to explore the medical school if they want, then at 11:30 some IU Med representatives will give a few quick speeches. We will begin passing out the envelopes at 11:45. This part will require some direction following to ensure all students get their envelopes efficiently! At 12PM ( ON THE DOT) we will begin our countdown and everyone will open their envelopes. You then will be able to go up and announce where you matched. We will call people up by randomly assigned groups, which you will be told ahead of time, so no one will know if you didn't want to announce.
Can I bring my parents? YES. Family is encouraged to come to share with you in this special day. There is no entry fee. We are in Van Nuys however, so space could be slightly crowded if everyone brings their extended family, but whatever, it's our day, enjoy.
When will this be over? Traditionally ends around 1:30 PM after the last student has announced their Match, but you can leave at anytime if you and your family have lunch plans.
What if I don't match? Know that you are still a valuable member of this community and we look forward to seeing you at the events! You are 100% invited to any and all school events, and when you undoubtedly match into your field of choice the next year, go ahead and attend 2018's match day as well (even though I imagine it won't be as well done or organized as 2017.) There will be no official designation for anyone to know (without asking you) that you did not match. We will not make shirts where you put where you matched and what-not.
Match Day Party:
When: Friday, March 17th, 2017, 6PM-Midnight
Where: The Mavris, 121 S East St, Indianapolis, IN 46202 This location is conveniently located downtown about a 7 minute uber from IUPUI's campus and a few blocks south of Mass Ave. Link to the Mavris website http://www.mavris.net
What exactly is this? A party thrown in your honor. Traditionally very fun and quite nice. We have rented out a huge venue in downtown Indianapolis which will have a band, appetizers (which are delicious) and an open Beer/Wine bar. Liquor will be available if you so desire. There will be drawing where thousands of dollars of prizes will be given out. For example, last year multiple brand new Apple Watches and new Ipads were distributed.
Can I bring a guest? Absolutely, however know that those who are not 4th year medical students will have to pay an entry fee of $40. This money covers access to the appetizers, open wine/beer bar, casino games, bands and dance floor, but NOT to the prize raffles. I've known of a few different parents who have attended the event and looked like they might have enjoyed themselves.
How long does the open bar go? Open bar for beer and wine, cash bar for liquor will be open from 6:30 until 11:30PM!
How do I reserve spots for my guests? *********The Deadline for early registration has passed. However, you can still pay for additional guests who are not registered with $40 cash at the door. Since the deadline has passed, we in no way can ensure there will be enough space for additional unregistered guests, however we will do our best to accommodate.
What is the dress code? The theme is Welcome to the Red Carpet. Wear whatever you think you look the most dashing in, I'll probably have on a sport coat and some slacks that I don't mind spilling wine on (Ross Schumacher). But, if you are averse to dressing up....whatever, it's your party, come as you want.
Is there a Pre-Party? Yes! For those who want to get the night started and spend more time with their classmates, t will be held downtown at The Blockhouse from 4-6PM on March 17th. More information can be found under the "Other Events" tab up top!
Will there be a photo booth? Yes
Coat Check? Yes
Where to park? If you are not drinking, feel free to park in the lot on the South East corner of Washington and East Street. No one has ever been towed from this lot in the past. If you are drinking, please Uber or catch a cab.
Cost: 4th year students enter for free. All guests who are not 4th year medical students will be $40.
Will there be a band? Yes! In fact, we have two wonderful acts which will be supplying us music from 7:45 PM until Midnight.
22 French have performed to much acclaim at Evening of the Arts and are made up of senior students: Viraj Maniar- Bass guitar, Andrew Srisuwananukorn- Guitar, Ben Goldenberg - Guitar, Christen Salyer - Piano , Logan Guckien - Drums.
Following the 22 French opener, the Juice Box Heroes will take the stage and play until Midnight! JBH are an excellent cover band based out of Louisville. They cover megahits of rap, country, pop, rock, and have a strong stage presence. I've seen them in person before and they are a great show.
Where can I find a photo of the Med Student Band 22 French?: Please see below
